Tom Janney

Tom Janney, CPA, and president of Janney & Associates, CPAs, founded the company in October of 1989. Tom is a 1980 graduate of DeKalb County High School in Smithville, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in accounting in March of 1985 and became a certified public accountant in 1987.

Tom began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co in 1985 before returning to home to work at a local accounting firm in Smithville – literally going from what was then, the largest accounting firm in the world to probably one of the smallest. Tom made the change because he wanted to work more closely with individual and small business clients to help them achieve their financial goals and run their businesses more effectively. He greatly enjoys helping customers arrange their financial affairs in ways that relieve stress and help them focus on running their business.

Tom enjoys being involved in the local community, having served two terms as president of the Dekalb County Habitat for Humanity. He has also served as president of the Upper Cumberland Chapter of the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the Smithville-Dekalb County Chamber of Commerce. He also serves a variety of board of directors for charitable organizations. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and on the National Association of Tax Professionals.

Cathy Finley

EA

Cathy joined Janney & Associates in January 2003 as a tax preparer and bookkeeper. Cathy is a graduate of Athens State College in Athens, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She became an enrolled agent in April of 2004, and is an active member of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP).  Currently she serves on the state board of directors of the Tennessee NATP.

Cathy has extensive experience processing payrolls, payroll tax returns, monthly bookkeeping, sales tax returns and income tax returns for individuals and businesses.

Prior to joining the firm of Janney & Associates, Cathy worked for a public accountant while attending college. She has also had experience as a legal secretary and has had some paralegal training. Cathy and her husband Jim moved here to get closer to their original home in Tompkinsville, KY. They have two children Kalee and Trey.

Josh Tramel

MBA

Josh Tramel joined Janney & Associates in January of 2003. Josh is a 1997 graduate of Dekalb County High in Smithville, Tennessee. He graduated from Tennessee Technological University in May of 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and soon followed with the degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) in August of 2002. Josh is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals.

Josh has an understanding of and experience with tax preparation, financial statement preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and consulting services with an emphasis on accounting software. He works personally with individuals and small businesses to develop a trusting relationship that assists them in attaining their financial goals.

Josh enjoys participation in the local community through active involvement in his church. He has been involved in the community through events such as plays, dramas, mimes, and many other activities. In his spare time, he enjoys competitive fishing.

Kevin Huff

EA / IT Specialist

Kevin joined Janney & Associates in January 2002 as the Information Technology Manager with a focus on assisting our firm to utilize current technology, while developing a cost efficient plan for evaluating and implementing new technology to help the firm be more productive.

Soon after Kevin joined the firm, we realized the value of having someone with his skills on our team to consult with our business clients regarding their IT needs. With Kevin's help, our firm provides IT support small and medium sized business’s. Kevin is available to provide networking services, computer repair, training for you and your employees, and various other services as needed.

Kevin has an Associates Degree in Information Technology and has been in the computer industry for the past twelve years. Prior to joining our firm he worked for a local internet service provider that provided internet based services. He became an enrolled agent in 2013.  He is dedicated to continually learning about new technologies and how they can benefit our firm and our business clients that he works with. He is currently working on his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management.

Kevin and his wife Jera are the proud parents of their two sons Camron and Nathan.

Regina Rowland

Payroll / Bookkeeping Consultant

Regina joined Janney & Associates as an accounting assistant in December 1991.

Regina has extensive experience in processing payrolls, payroll tax returns, monthly bookkeeping, sales tax returns, income tax returns and other tax related matters. She has worked closely with the clients in many aspects of their business. She is also a Tennessee Notary Public At Large.

Before joining Janney & Associates, Regina worked in the banking industry for fourteen years gaining experience in many different areas.

Regina is a native of Hickman, Tennessee and resides there now with her husband, James. They have two children, Jonathan and Dana, who are both graduates of Tennessee Tech.

Brenda Hooper

CPA

Brenda joined the firm in January 2005 as a part-time tax preparer. Brenda is a graduate of DeKalb County High School. She graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and became a CPA in 1984.

Her prior work experience includes Franchise & Excise tax auditor with the Tennessee Department of Revenue and staff accountant for McGriff Dowdy & Associates in Huntsville, Alabama. After seventeen years of being a full-time wife and mom, she has returned to accounting and enjoys working with all the staff.

She and her husband Doug are the parents of two sons, Daniel and Justin.

Brenda enjoys participating in the music and education of her church. She is also a member of the Smithville Women's Club, Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce, Justin Potter Library Board and the Upper Cumberland Regional Library Board.
